From the field to the fleet
The field is the foundation, not the ceiling.
I started in industrial electrical and controls in 2017, and I have been in the same trade ever since, learning it from the field up and sharpening it every week. Most of my work is inside active industrial plants: water and wastewater facilities, manufacturing plants, and process environments where the systems have to keep running. A lot of it is retrofits, upgrades, and integrations inside live facilities, where planning matters as much as installation.
My approach is field first. Before touching anything, I walk the existing installation down, document what is actually there, coordinate the shutdown window, plan the work, test everything properly, and make sure the system is handed back clean and working. I am comfortable across the full path, from incoming power down to the I/O point: power distribution, motor control, drives, panels, controls, instrumentation, and industrial networks.
From the tools, my responsibility expanded outward without leaving the field reality behind. I moved into scope definition, estimating, labor and materials planning, risk, and the commercial side of the work, then into company operations, and then into software and AI. That is the arc: field execution, then project delivery, then running the business, then building the systems that carry the recurring work. Each step is the same discipline applied to a larger surface. It is why I think in interfaces, failure modes, handoffs, authority, evidence, and commissioning.
A system is not finished because it worked once. It is finished when it can be trusted under real conditions.
The kinds of work I take on.
This is the work itself, from running and planning a project down to the systems, equipment, and field work behind it. These are categories I've done real work in, not a list of things I'm comfortable around.
Project management and consulting
I run real industrial electrical and controls projects from the front end through execution. I define the scope, build the estimate, plan the labor and materials, identify the risk, and manage the commercial side so the job has a clear path before the crew shows up. Because I came up on the tools, my planning carries field reality: my estimates are not built on hope, my schedules are not built on perfect conditions, and my risk calls come from knowing where jobs actually go sideways. I open this up as a consulting service for owners, contractors, integrators, and teams that need help scoping, estimating, planning, or managing industrial work.
Controls and automation
Practical field integration: understanding what is already there, tying new equipment into existing systems, and making sure the final installation works the way the plant needs. I read and write ladder logic in real field applications, work through existing logic to see how a system is operating, and land new devices, drives, instruments, and control points into it. I keep a clear line between integrating into existing logic and writing a full program from scratch. My experience includes VFDs and soft starters, drive packages and retrofits, programming support, testing and startup, HMIs, SCADA, control panels, and 4-20 mA field instrumentation, with the electronics protected during insulation testing.
Power and electrical
Industrial systems installed safely, tested properly, and brought back online with confidence. I have worked with feeders, disconnects, transformers, motor control centers, switchgear, and related distribution, from standard starters up through larger MCC and medium-voltage applications where coordination and testing matter. I work from one-line, engineered, and panel drawings and field markups, and I redline record drawings so the documentation reflects what was actually installed. For available fault current, SCCR, ratings, and coordination, I verify with the engineer or the project documents rather than guess. Commissioning is methodical: insulation resistance, continuity, phase rotation, grounding verification, functional testing, staged energization, and clear documentation of the conditions found and left.
Networks and communications
The systems that connect the field back to the PLC, control room, or plant network. I have worked with industrial communication systems, fiber optics, Cat 6, structured cabling, and radio for remote sites: pulling, routing, terminating, labeling, and testing communication and signal cables in real plant environments. I keep communication and signal wiring separated from power, protect cable pathways, maintain clean terminations, and leave documentation that makes the system easier to troubleshoot later, tying field devices, panels, switches, radios, cameras, PLCs, and operator stations into the larger system.
Machine vision and sensing
Clean installation, proper wiring, and clear responsibility between the field install and the final configuration. I have worked with camera systems, code readers, sensors, and encoders used for inspection, tracking, speed, and position feedback: mounting devices, installing conduit, pulling and terminating power and signal wiring, labeling, and running everything back to the interface point. I keep a clear line between the field side I own and the vision configuration, logic changes, and final tuning that belong to the OEM, integrator, or customer.
Safety and security
Protecting people, equipment, and the facility before the work starts. I take lockout/tagout seriously and approach every energized environment with arc flash awareness and respect for NFPA 70E. I do not work equipment hot when it can be locked out, verified, and tested dead. I have also supported industrial security, fire control, and alarm systems in plant environments: installation, wiring, device connections, testing, and coordination with the proper vendors and facility personnel. Safety systems exist to protect people and keep the facility secure, so the work has to be clean, documented, and handled with the right level of care.
I taught myself the software side. My strength is orchestration.
I am not a trained software engineer and I do not pretend to be one. I can write basic Java and HTML by hand, but that is not where my real strength is. My strength is orchestration: I direct AI agents, structure the work into defined roles, set the rules, build in checks, and hand each step off cleanly, then I verify the output, because fast is not the same as usable. That habit comes from years in the field, where you do not hand something back until it actually works. Instead of coding everything myself, I build the process that lets AI do the heavy lifting with direction and accountability.
This is not theory. I used this method to build a real production application, built and hardened for real operating conditions, not a demo, and I am now building a version that more than one company can use. Two parts of the method are open for anyone: Orchestrator OS is the framework itself, an operating system for AI-driven work with roles, rules, checks, and handoffs, and AI Prompt Sync is a free tool that moves prompt and working-directory context into the AI assistant people already use. I am still learning, and I am comfortable with that. The more I build, the more I see what I have left to learn.
Same rule as the field. You do not hand it back until it works.
There's a life outside the work.
A page about work would not show the whole picture. The way I think about it is simple: family, health, training, work, and life. Balance is the thing I am always trying to hold. I am a husband and a father, and family comes first. It is the reason behind all of it.
I also train Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I am a blue belt, about two years in, and still very much a student. It keeps me humble, healthy, and honest, and it reminds me that progress is slow, steady, and earned. Family, training, and work all pull in different directions, and learning to keep them in balance is what keeps me steady. Staying willing to be a student is a good place to live, and I try to carry that into everything else.
Balance isn't something you find once. You practice it every day.
